  • POSITION SUMMARY
    • The Infection Prevention and Control Coordinator (IPCC) manages an ongoing comprehensive infection prevention and control program in accordance with regulatory agencies such as OSHA, Joint Commission, CMS and Public Health (Federal, State and local) for the wellbeing of patients, staff, visitors, students and volunteers in this healthcare environment. Key elements include managing critical data and information including surveillance of healthcare associated infections; setting and recommending policies and procedures; intervening directly to interrupt transmission of infectious diseases and educating and training healthcare workers and providers.
    • The Infection Prevention and Control Coordinator in coordination with Senior Leadership Team and Medical Staff Leadership makes decisions regarding Infection Prevention and Control issues both daily and in emergent situations. Infection Prevention and Control Coordinator routinely interacts and rounds with employees from nearly all departments which provide direct or indirect patient care.

    • As a community resource, the IPCC has routine interactions with outside individuals from varied patient care and public health disciplines who seek information, advice or guidance in solving problems related to the control of infection. The IPCC may occasionally be called upon to provide information to media sources, (radio, television, newspapers) pertaining to the prevention of community acquired infections. This should be coordinated with the Chief Information Officer and/or Director of Marketing.
    • The Infection Prevention and Control Coordinator serves as an internal consultant regarding data collection, analysis, reporting and team facilitation in relation to improving patient outcomes related to healthcare associated infections and infectious diseases. The Infection Prevention and Control Coordinator is responsible for coordination, facilitation and leadership quality/performance improvement initiatives.

  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
    • Licenses and Certifications Required
      • Registered Nurse, preferred.
      • Current licensure in educational discipline in the state of North Dakota required.
      • Certified in Infection Control (CIC) preferred.
    • Educational Requirements
      • Bachelor’s Degree in health sciences required, including, but not limited to nursing and/or laboratory science. A registered nurse is preferred.
      • Completion of basic or advanced surveillance course required within two (2) years of employment.
    • Experience Requirements
      • Minimum five (5) years acute care clinical experience, infection control or epidemiology experience.
    • Special Skills or Training Requirements
      • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
      • Knowledge of adult learning principles including principles of evaluation preferred.
      • High level of confidentiality required. Knowledge of research methods and statistical analysis and literature analysis/review ability recommended.
      • Microbiology principles required.
      • Must have leadership/management skills.
      • Strong problem solving, critical thinking skills and adaptability to manage crisis required.
      • Basic computer skills including data entry recommended.
