The Department of Therapeutic Discovery at Amgen in Thousand Oaks is seeking a highly motivated graduate student with interest in biotechnology to join our endeavor in biologics research to discover new innovative modalities for use in therapeutics.

The intern will be an integral member of a dynamic research team, collaborating with research scientists at multiple Amgen departments and functional areas.

The focus of this internship project is to explore protein scaffolds that target membrane proteins for internalization. Selected scaffolds will be evaluated using yeast display and similar methodologies.

Basic Qualifications

Amgen requires that all individuals applying for a grad internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:

18 years or older

Graduated with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent

Completion as a first year graduate student before internship starts and currently enrolled in a Master's program for a Masters internship OR PhD for a PhD internship from an accredited college or university

Enrolled in an accredited college or university following the potential internship or co-op assignment

Must not be employed at the time the internship starts

Preferred Qualifications

Degree concentration(s) in Chemical or Biological Sciences

Laboratory experience and knowledge

Strong attention to detail, organization skills, skills working independently and ability to learn quickly

Excellent interpersonal skills; hardworking, great teammate and self-starter; serious commitment to hard work and excellence

Strong critical thinking, data analysis, interpretation and record keeping skills

Experience with molecular and cellular biology, including biological sample handling and preparation, cell culture, and flow cytometry

Knowledge and experience using sequencing analysis software for molecular cloning.
