Job Summary
We are looking for a student who is passionate about issues of poverty, hunger, food insecurity, food waste, sustainability, food justice, health and wellness of the community to perform some or all of following tasks upon training: – Work as a team to collaborate with on- and off-campus partners to promote volunteering opportunities and expand beyond the meal programming, such as nutrition education and cooking classes; – Recruit and establish new community partnerships to develop innovative, meaningful programming to address the root causes of food waste, hunger, and poverty, including empowering and connecting individuals with limited resources to affordable, fresh fruits and vegetables, job training, and benefits; – Grow sustainability and environmental programs through gardening, food recovery, and composting to support local, community gardening, and agricultural efforts; – Increase awareness about food waste, hunger, and the role of the Campus Kitchen at the University of Kentucky (CKUK) and Universities Fighting World Hunger at the University of Kentucky (UFWH-UK) to faculty, staff, students, and the greater Lexington community; – Manage and increase reach on the social media platforms about CKUK and UFWH-UK programs; – Identify funding opportunities and new program areas to meet the needs by generating proposals, completing timely reports, and maintaining and imWork as a team to collaborate with on- and off-campus partners to promote volunteering opportunities and expand beyond the meal programming, such as nutrition education and cooking classes; – Recruit and establish new community partnerships to develop innovative, meaningful programming to address the root causes of food waste, hunger, and poverty, including empowering and connecting individuals with limited resources to affordable, fresh fruits and vegetables, job training, and benefits; – Grow sustainability and environmental programs through gardening, food recovery, and composting to support local, community gardening, and agricultural efforts; – Increase awareness about food waste, hunger, and the role of the Campus Kitchen at the University of Kentucky (CKUK) and Universities Fighting World Hunger at the University of Kentucky (UFWH-UK) to faculty, staff, students, and the greater Lexington community; – Manage and increase reach on the social media platforms about CKUK and UFWH-UK programs; – Identify funding opportunities and new program areas to meet the needs by generating proposals, completing timely reports, and maintaining and implementing the funding calendar, including proposal and report deadlines; – Manage CKUK weekly and daily operations and record details of operations for reports; – Enhance professional and leadership development by improving volunteer training, recruitment, and management; – Conduct evaluations of programs and assist with research projects.

- Multi-tasking; – Team player – Work ethics – Self-motivated – Effective communication, interpersonal, and organization skills – Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word) and one of design software (Canva, Publisher, Photoshop, and/or InDesign).
Does this position have supervisory responsibilities? No
Preferred Education/Experience
Food service management, basic cooking skills, and knowledge of food safety. ServSafe Food Safety Manager Certification. Background in health, nutrition, education, community service, social work, management, or related field.
