The scope of the Enterprise Architecture (EA) team spans strategy, governance, technology platforms, business architecture and innovation. The EA team interprets business goals, drivers and strategies, assesses current capabilities of the people, processes, information and technology of the enterprise, and determines how these relate to one another and to the external environment. The EA team’s strategic activities define the constraints, standards and guiding principles required to govern and facilitate the evolution to the intended future state through information-enabled change in the organization’s structure, business processes, information systems and infrastructure.

The Enterprise Architect IV is the most senior level EA role and acts in an influential leadership capacity. The EA IV – Infrastructure is responsible for the creation, communication and improvement of the key principles, standards, policies, procedures, methods and framework models that describe the enterprise's current state infrastructure and future state infrastructure to enable its evolution.

The scope of these leadership responsibilities apply to the end-to-end technology lifecycle spanning multiple key programs/initiatives. Examples of key initiatives include technology governance, application rationalization, technology modernization, enterprise integration, data architecture and governance, cloud transformation, and innovation. The EA IV leads the design and development of new applications, ensuring that architectural standards, and best practices are followed.


Architecture – Knowledge of architectural methodologies used in the design and development of information systems, including the physical structure of a system's internal operations and interactions with other systems.

  • Extensive knowledge of a domain (i.e., applications, data, infrastructure, security) and broad knowledge of other domains         
  • Collaborate with RTS management and Project Managers to ensure that assets in the IT portfolio are leveraged to the maximum extent possible
  • Analyze the current architecture to identify weaknesses and develop opportunities for improvements in medium to high complexity projects (i.e., business processes, expanding capacity, reducing time, cost and increasing effectiveness)  
  • Easily makes connections with previously unrelated notions     
  • Define architecture principles, styles, and standards for systems across the enterprise
  • Ensure that standards are followed and develop plan for remediation when they are not
  • Ability to apply advanced knowledge and experience to the design and development of both OLTP and DW systems
  • Understand where application domains overlap and collaborate with others on the design of solutions and/or impact of planned changes
  • Tolerant of a high-degree of ambiguity and good at resolving uncertainty and setting direction
  • Collaborate with others to define architecture principles, styles and standards for the enterprise
  • Lead the design of high-quality database systems in support of Reliance business objectives

Consultant – Able to provide extensive business and technical guidance.

  • Collaborate to establish broad data governance policies and processes in support of Reliance business objectives
  • Analyze decisions and collaborate with others on the design of solutions and/or impact of planned changes
  • Collaborate with technology and application owners to manage lifecycle of data assets in the IT portfolio within domain expertise with broader knowledge of other domains
  • Collaborate with various RTS departments to evaluate designs and identify potential gaps or weaknesses early so they can be addressed within domain expertise integrating broader knowledge of other domains for medium to high complexity projects
  • Translate business needs into architectural requirements using domain expertise and broader knowledge of other domains for medium to high complexity projects
  • Participate and provide leadership within domain expertise and broader knowledge of other domains for medium to high complexity projects in implementing systems and ensuring design is consistent and well integrated with existing conceptual, logical and physical architectures

Governance – Develops, oversees, and organizes the standards, policies, and procedures of technology throughout the organization

  • Support defining architecture principles, styles, and standards for systems across the enterprise
  • Ensure that standards are followed and develops a plan for remediation when they are not
  • Collaborate with others to define architectural principles, styles and standards for systems across the enterprise
  • Review non-standard technologies and help determine if there are standard solutions available and where there are not, makes a recommendation to RTS leadership
  • Collaborate with others to safeguard the organization’s data assets from damage, theft or other unauthorized access

Technical Strategy – Ability to identify long-term technology vision and strategy.

  • Develop strategies and roadmaps that span database design, master data management, data governance, and data quality activities for the Reliance enterprise
  • Identify new technologies and capabilities that will give strategic advantage and/or achieve business objectives
  • Look for opportunities to leverage existing technologies

Innovation – Ability to introduce new concepts, ideas, and technologies to form effective and innovative solutions.

  • Create proofs of concepts to demonstrate innovative approaches for complex ideas and applications
  • Collaborate with application and infrastructure teams to produce high-level, conceptual designs across one or more domains
  • Develop analogies or metaphors to explain a situation

  • Consult with project teams of infrastructure development to fit entire architecture infrastructure.
  • Identify enterprise requirements for structures, resources and cultural modifications required to support infrastructure architecture.
  • Ensure documentation of entire architecture design and evaluation work.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or equivalent work experience in a related field required. Master’s Degree preferred
  • 15+ years of overall work experience or displays mastery of required skills
  • 10+ years of solutions and software development architecture experience with demonstrated experience in building reliable and scalable, enterprise software products, required
  • >5 years in an Enterprise Architect role or equivalent, required
  • Ability and/or experience in driving strategic initiatives such as Data Center refresh, Technology Transformation, Cloud Migration, Application Rationalization, or Platform Modernization, required
  • Proven experience in at least two technical domain areas - Databases, Networking, Virtualization, and Storage, required
  • Participated in at least four full life cycle enterprise wide system implementations requiring knowledge of business domain requirements, application components, data models, integrations, information security and infrastructure components, preferred
  • Experience with the design of a Secure Cloud Foundation, repeatable cloud patterns, templates, and/or accelerators to enable faster business IT adoption of cloud service preferred
  • Ability to build strong relationships and rapport with key stakeholders, including business partners, Application leads and other Infrastructure functions (Engineering, Operations, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability leveraging strong business acumen to interact with business leadership;
  • Highly effective communicator and team player, who can collaborate across all stakeholders, leveraging business terms to relay technical solutions in simple terms;
  • Present to and collaborate with Senior Leadership from Management, Directors to Executives
  • Mentor Enterprise Architects, Technical Managers, Solution Architects, and Software Engineers
  • High process centric thinking in designing technology solutions, keeping in mind an effective business architecture and approaching it holistically from end to end
  • Ability to be flexible and provide out of the box solutions to solve business needs
  • Proven experience working across multiple business areas, and multiple technologies with well- rounded background in applications, software, databases, middleware, etc.
  • Strong team player and collaborator who can work across all stakeholders whether business or technology
  • Experience with Agile Development and DevOps delivery approaches, frameworks and concepts;
  • Experience working as Technology Consultant for a large global management consulting firm i.e. Accenture, IBM, Cognizant, EY, Deloitte, etc. preferred
  • Keeps abreast of current developments and trends across the enterprise technology landscape through networking, continuing education and industry/technology publications
  • Project management skills in creating work plans, schedules, estimates and milestone plans
  • Ability to multi-task and switch between tasks quickly and smoothly
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and organization skills
  • A strong desire to learn and expand their technical knowledge

  • Hands on experience and technical knowledge of core services in Azure, GCP or AWS preferred
  • Experience with migrating or building cloud workloads hosted in the public cloud; Amazon AWS (strongly preferred), Google GCP or Microsoft Azure preferred
  • Demonstrated experience establishing enterprise governance policies and procedures required (EA, Cloud, Data, etc.)
  • Detail oriented with expert interpersonal communication skills, verbal and written, at all levels including customers, vendors, peers, business stakeholders and management required
