Job Description

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for maintaining Facility, Critical Utilities and process equipment in optimum operational condition. This position supports engineering department by analyzing, troubleshooting and maintaining process equipment and components. Provides direct support to Manufacturing and Packaging to ensure continuity of operations and maximize equipment reliability and uptime.

ESSENTIAL AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Troubleshooting/performing necessary repairs on various types of production and packaging equipment, facility and utilities.
  • Support the execution of work orders and preventive maintenance for process equipment and critical utilities.
  • Performs routine preventative maintenance on production machinery according to PM schedules.
  • Support the development and enhancement of maintenance procedures to improve preventive maintenance practices, equipment reliability and uptime.
  • Performs general maintenance including welding and basic electric; fabricates and installs parts when necessary, and documents all repair or maintenance work done on any equipment.
  • Assist with the installation of new hardware and software and help and train maintenance and manufacturing staff on its use.
  • Provide equipment related subject matter expertise for possible upgrades and changes to process equipment to improve reliability.
  • Support the installation and commissioning of new equipment as part of capital projects.
  • Timely closure of Urgent and Scheduled Work Orders, ensuring proper documentation and following Standard Procedures in place.
  • Housekeeping of the Maintenance Ownership areas to include the Maintenance Shop and mechanical rooms.
  • Actively participate in pass down meetings, operational improvement meetings, departmental and safety meetings.
  • Assists/train other mechanics in performing maintenance duties, PM routines and trouble shootings.
  • Monitor / manage spare parts inventory and order parts as needed.
  • Responsible for performing additional related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Minimum of 7+ year experience in industrial maintenance activities. Hands-on or vocational school training, and a minimum of five year of mechanical maintenance experience preferably in GMP/pharmaceutical, food, cosmetic in a manufacturing environment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Experience on using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems to track scheduling and execution of work orders.
  • Low pressure boiler license.
  • Has a natural aptitude and understanding of mechanical principles, operation of equipment and mechanical processes. Can apply mechanical principles to solve problems.
  • Ability to repair, replace and troubleshoot electro-mechanical components such as gear boxes, modulating valves, components of hydraulic systems, electrical motors, VFDs, etc.
  • Reading and interpreting blueprints and schematics.
  • Understanding and following written and oral instructions.
  • Communicating clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with individuals contacted in the course of work.
