EID Controls Technology Intern

Role Summary:As an EID Intern you will report to within the Controls Technology Platform Department. The successful candidate will be part of a highly motivated, dynamic and growing team of engineers working on the development of new HVDC Control Systems, particularly for HVDC converters and the forthcoming HVDC Grid. This is a very exciting and dynamic field of control engineering in which GEs leading contribution has worldwide recognition.

Essential Responsibilities:Responsibilities:

+ Work as part of an expert team, giving ample opportunity for learning design, development and simulation skills highly relevant for working with any control and protection system; in particular, power electronics systems and grid technology.

+ Execute with guidance from senior engineering resources, the analysis, design, simulation, test, and integration required to define, and support assigned components, modules or systems that meet business standards for New Product Introduction (NPI) or New Technology Introduction (NTI) within program requirements.

+ Support in producing required technical documentation, under the supervision of senior engineers (e.g. requires capture, detail design, test specification development),

+ Follow the departments standard design practices, engineering reviews and guidelines.

+ Prepare and present, with support from lead engineers technical information for Substation Control Systems to internal and external customers.

+ Assist with laboratory activities for the installation and testing of the control system.

Qualifications/Requirements:The candidate will have completed 2 years of degree level in a related science such as Software Engineering. However, this is not as important as a proven track record and evidence that you have the mind-set and abilities to perform the role.

+ 2:1-degree grade or above (or equivalent) predicted or obtained in Software Engineering, Computer Science or Data Communication, or related field.

+ Good written communication skills there should be little or no spelling and grammatical errors in their application.

+ Eligibility to undertake placement - the internship is for 12 months and will begin between June and August 2020, all candidates should confirm on their application that they are available for this time period

+ C/C++ Embedded/Real-time development experience.

+ MathWorks Matlab Simulink model development and simulation.

+ PSCAD (power system studies).

+ Enterprise Architect (SysML).

+ Python or similar scripting experience.

+ Basic academic knowledge is sufficient; the rest will need to be taught on the job candidate needs to be passionate and willing to learn
