OVERVIEW:  The Director of Logistics is responsible for developing and deploying a centralized, standardized, and globally optimized inbound and outbound logistics network in order to minimize total system cost and maximize profitability while delivering superior customer service. The position will require a full cross functional approach developing plans and metrics that are aligned with business goals and objectives creating value for our customers.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Use a clear understanding of the organizations goals to identify initiatives that translate customer strategies and objectives into business results.

  • Develop and implement a North America Logistics approach and structure that is integrated with supply chain and minimizes total system cost while providing superior customer service.

  • Collaborate with all management to develop continuous improvement methodology and use KPIs to drive and quantify cost optimization while maintaining customer service quality and service.

  •  Develop / implement process and system enhancements to reduce costs and operational efficiency, accuracy, and customer service levels.

  •  Maintain departmental / organizational ability to support current business activities and future domestic / international business growth / expansion.

  • Partner with sale and operations to assist in resource planning and process execution, regarding sales forecasting, inventory level and supply chain management.

  • Manage the professional development of all staff members.

  • Develop / manage strategic alliances with contract providers for transportation, brokerage, 3PL, storage, and distribution.

  • Planning safety levels, inventory demand planning.

  • Responsible for inventory management; both inbound and outbound.

  • Responsible for all Finished Goods Inventory whether purchased or manufactured.

  • Implementation of inventory management techniques in order to optimize inventory levels within the distribution network.

  • Establish departmental metrics, KPI tracking and other reporting to support business needs.

  • Ensure all strategies and actions align with regulatory compliance requirements.

  • Additional duties as assigned or required by executive leadership.



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Manages and motivates staff (including, hiring, terminations, performance management, etc.).

  • Assess staffing needs and performs some recruiting duties.

  • Train, direct and appraise staff.

  • Make daily schedules for proper manpower utilization.

  • Plans and organize workload and staff assignments.

  • Issues written and oral instructions; assigns duties and examines work for exactness and conformance to policies and procedures.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:



  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or government regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from group of managers, clients, customers and the general public.



EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:



  • Bachelors Degree (B.S.) from a four year college or university in Management, Logistics, or Supply Chain Operations; and 5 to 7 years of combined experience, directly and strategically with all aspects of logistics. Managing a warehouse / distribution center, negotiating freight agreements, managing 3Pl relationships, inventory in a diverse business environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.



CERTIFICATES, LICENSES OR REGISTRATIONS:



  • Valid U.S. Drivers License.



COMPUTER SKILLS:



  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook is required.  Intermediate to advanced proficiency in an ERP system is required.  Experience with Microsoft Dynamics AX12 is preferred.



PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  



  • The employee may occasionally stand, walk, stoop, kneel or crouch during shift.  Employee will be required to regularly sit, use hand to finger, handle, feel and reach with hands and arms.  Employee must be able to occasionally lift and or move up to 50 lbs.



WORK ENVIRONMENT:



  • This position works in an environment with moderate to loud noise levels.



TRAVEL:



  • This position may travel up to 25% of the time.
