Job Description:

This position drives IIE's Communications strategy and multichannel content promotion, ensuring excellence in web, social media, and thought leadership content delivery to further IIE's organizational objectives. Reporting to the head of the communications department, this key team member will be working with colleagues across the organization to amplify IIE's mission driven work, partnerships, philanthropic initiatives, and convening power. This position will collaborate closely with the creative director and supervise web and social media leads to deliver impactful written content across all IIE communications channels and oversee the development of content calendar that aligns with communications priorities. The Director of Content Strategy and Promotion will also liaise regularly with senior management and internal communications officer to strategize on team member engagement and amplify IIE leadership and expert voices. The ideal candidate will have a deep skillset in communications strategy, project management, creative writing, editing, and the development of impactful audience-driven content with measurable results.

The Institute of International Education ("IIE") has a hybrid work environment that allows team members a combination of in-office work and telework at any of the locations listed above.

Essential Functions:
Ensure consistency and refine quality of content across IIE communications channels and materials including our website, social channels, annual report, and corporate communications
Supervise social and web communications leads to optimize editorial quality, ensure timely content delivery and alignment with IIE organizational objectives
Collaborate closely with IIE's Branding and Creative team on a range of creative deliverables and digital campaigns
Review written content for brand continuity, tone of voice, and grammar across a variety of media (digital, social, print, email, and video)
Manage external editorial and copyediting vendor resources and budgeting
Work closely with external affairs colleagues and IIE's public affairs firm to ensure impactful execution of communications frameworks and strategies
Define and refine IIE tone of voice and own the updating and internal socialization of IIE's messaging and editorial style guide
Work with digital team to monitor and interpret social and web analytics, tracking engagement and adjusting digital strategies accordingly
Own, update, and expand content calendar in alignment with organizational goals and activities
Draft content representing IIE's Senior Management Team voices and strategic priorities
Shape IIE's emphasis on diversity, equity, inclusion, and access in communications

Job Requirements:

Education and Work Experience:
Requires an Bachelor's degree and at least eight years of related work experience, or combination education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
7-10 years of relevant experience in not-for-profit marketing, digital marketing, journalism, and/or advertising
Excellent writing, editing and storytelling skills keeping in mind usability, accessibility, overall communications strategy and organizational goals
Strong people skills and the ability to work with a wide variety of team members, building positive relationships
Willingness to juggle and prioritize a variety of projects, demonstrating ability to move quickly on short-term needs while making progress on longer-term goals
Experience with social media, email and web management platforms
Strong MS Office and project management skills and ability to manage production schedules, deadlines, and workflows involving multiple staff and outside vendors
Experience or strong interest in higher education, international education, and global affairs
Proven ability to produce multichannel content. Work samples required. Provide website URL or PDF document with writing samples and/or communications campaign examples

Salary Range: $108,377 - $131,028. A candidate's salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, job-related knowledge, skills, abilities, internal organizational equity, and geographic region.
