Physical Requirements
Must be able to stand for long periods of time; sit at a computer workstation for extended periods of time; repetitive motion tasks; lift, push, or pull objects of 50 pounds or more; risk of injuries from the use of materials/equipment on the job; and have a tolerance for noisy and often dusty environments.
Shift
Mostly days, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Exact hours and days vary with the academic calendar and the level of faculty/student activity in the fabrication lab. Some evenings and weekends may be required.
Job Summary
The College of Design is committed to an open, nurturing culture of inclusion surrounding design technology and fabrication. In support of that mission, The Fabrication Lab Manager manages the technical, operational, and administrative environment impacting the fabrication functions of the College. This position is one of multiple positions within the Office of Design Technology and regularly works closely with faculty and students. This position trains students, staff, and faculty on the appropriate use of fabrication machinery and tools, implements best practices and safety compliance, and ensure equitable availability of fabrication facilities. Additionally, this position coordinates with staff peers and supervisors to deliver uninterrupted services with a commitment to student experience and a culture of design experimentation. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a record of proficiency in both digital and analog fabrication, as well as the ability to support and promote successful operations in a pedagogical environment.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
Experience in programming, set-up and operation of digital fabrication equipment, including 3d printing and subtractive CNC operations, and experience with all types of construction, including cabinetmaking, sheet metalwork, metal fabrication, torch cutting, and metal machining.

Preferred Education/Experience
Driver’s license preferred.
