As a Creative Director, SEM (Store Experience Marketing), youll lead the development and build the acumen of our total SEM creative team to inspire creative excellence, deliver on business and financial goals, and establish an environment of continuous growth.

Your creative, strategic and collaborative leadership will provide creative vision to guide and inspire internal and external creative teams/agencies to innovate, concept and execute creative solutions and challenge conventional thinking resulting in elevated in-store experiences. Youll articulate Targets brand (voice and culture) to infuse the work with an unmistakable Target approach, seamlessly integrating a multicultural lens.

Youll collaborate closely with Targets Retail Brand Experience team, which brings together Store Experience Marketing (formerly ISM), Visual Merchandising and Packaging teams to create a connected, inspiring store experience through product presentation, environment and storytelling. In-store marketing punctuates and elevates product stories through messaging, photography, digital, experience and environmental design.

You will lead, coach and develop a team with dual focus: seasonal SEM leaders and makers of the work, and creative leaders of storewide, category and proof of concept SEM who guide and collaborate with multiple agency partners. Inspiring your team members to achieve challenging goals and high standards of performance, your knowledge of marketing, creative and store experience will be critical to generating solutions that efficiently solve business problems though world-class creative. Well support you along the way with robust onboarding, as well as personal and career development, to help you grow as a Director, Creative.

About you:

  • Four-year degree or equivalent experience, creative emphasis/major preferred.
  • 8-10+ years of experience in managing a creative team in retail, advertising, or design.
  • Ability to think strategically and future focused; anticipating what is to come and matching potential future capabilities against existing internal capabilities.
  • Ability to adapt to change and ambiguity, while bringing others along.
  • Proven ability and experience in communicating vision to engage and inspire.
  • Strong collaborator with highly effective relationship and partnership skills across various functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize information, think critically, and communicate effectively, including the ability to clearly present concepts and ideas, and interface with all levels of management with confidence.
  • Ability to see solutions from a Guests perspective and deliver against business needs through Targets brand lens.
  • Demonstrated excellent taste level and experience in graphic design, typography, systems thinking and photo/art direction is critical. A background in spatial design or experience a plus.
  • Provides mentoring and coaching to others to build total team acumen
  • Flexible to travel (some weekends included), as needed
