Must be enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program at an accredited institution and have completed at least 30 academic credit hours at the time of application. You must be in good academic standing with the university / college.

Physical Requirements
Job-related travel including overnight stays; visiting clientele at sites throughout the county (including farms); standing/walking for long periods; handling of average-weight objects up to 25 lbs. 
Monday-Friday (8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.) with evenings and weekends as needed.  Most weeks will exceed 40 hours. 
Job Summary
Internships are available working under the direction of the following Extension professionals:
County Extension Agent for Agriculture & Natural Resources -interns assist the agent in conducting on-farm research plots, providing educational workshops, writing news articles & newsletters, making farm visits, assisting homeowners with horticultural questions, and working with community leaders.
County Extension Agent for 4-H Youth Development – interns assist the agent in planning and conducting youth programs & activities for the county. Will involve working directly with youth and adult volunteers. Will attend one week of overnight 4-H camp. Will write news articles & newsletters.
County Extension Agent for Family & Consumer Sciences – interns will assist the agent with educational programs related to food & nutrition, financial management, housing, clothing or family well-being. Will write news articles and newsletters and assist with Extension Homemakers.
County Extension Agent for Horticulture – Interns will assist the agent in providing information and educational workshops related to horticulture. May assist with community gardens, farmers markets, Master Gardeners, and/or commercial horticulture producer visits. Will write news articles and newsletters.
County Extension Agent for Fine Arts/CEDIK – Interns will assist the agent in the organization, promotion, and management of fine arts community programs and the marketing of fine arts programs and products as it relates to community development. The intern will work directly with youth and adults and will partner with other fine arts resources in the community.
State Extension Specialist – (for agriculture and family & consumer science majors) interns will assist State Specialist with organizing and implementing educational programs and/or research in their respective discipline area.

CAFE Office of Diversity – Interns will assist with diversity, equity and inclusion centered work.    Interns will work on communications and marketing (social media) and programs such as Jr. MANRRS and APES.  Students will also have days with local county agents to experience Extension in the field. 
Robinson Center for Appalachian Resource Sustainability (RCARS) – Interns will work in Agriculture and Natural Resources.  Interns will assist with Horticulture research projects taking place at RCARS

Students must possess a cumulative minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher based on a 4.0 scale and 30 credit hours at the time of application. An UNOFFICIAL transcript, resume, and cover letter are required to be included.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
Demonstrated ability to communicate orally and in writing with groups and individuals and through mass media. Ability to use the computer for program delivery and management. Ability to visit clientele at sites throughout the county.  Ability to plan and teach educational programs.  Demonstrated leadership and ability to serve as a positive role model. 
Does this position have supervisory responsibilities? No
Preferred Education/Experience
Agriculture and Horticulture interns must be enrolled in an area of Agriculture or Horticulture; Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS) interns must be enrolled in an area of FCS; 4-H interns do not have a specific required major.
