Under the direction of the Kitchen Operations Director and in accordance with the Christian mission and purpose of the Great Miami Valley YMCA Association, the Cook is responsible for preparing and serving food for meals and special events for YMCA Child Care programs and YMCA Camp Campbell Gards food service operation.

  1. Functions as a general, all-around cook for meals and special events.  

  2. Implements menus, which are developed with each type of group and budget in mind.

  3. Implements a quality control program that provides all groups with the highest quality of meal service within given cost constraints.

  4. Assists in food preparation, service and clean up.

  5. Assists in the entire health and safety of the food service operation.

  6. Monitors supplies and notifies supervisor when supplies are low.

  7. Helps unload and store supplies. 

  8. Follows Health Department sanitation guidelines.

  9. Washes and stores dishes according to Health Department Guidelines.

  10. Assists in all aspects of kitchen and dining hall cleanliness, including storage areas and refrigeration units.

  11. Assists in recycling program of the facility.

  12. Assists participants with any special dietary needs or requests.

  13. Provides exemplary service to all participants in the facility and respond to their needs in a timely and polite manner.

  14. Works cooperatively with all program staff, directors, vendors and guests to best meet the needs of all staff and participants.

  15. Constantly assists with attaining the entire facilitys goals of cleanliness and excellent first impression.

  16. Provides outstanding food quality and service to our guests.

  17. Assists in all aspects of safety in food service areas.

  18. Inspects equipment within food service areas for safety hazards, damage or wear.

  19. Increases guest awareness of healthy lifestyle factors.

  20. Communicates to Kitchen Operations Director any concerns or incidents that may need follow-up.

  21. Assists kitchen staff with other kitchen duties as needed.



  1. Knows and administers the appropriate EAP (emergency action plan) for any situation, including first aid or CPR, work-related employee injuries, etc.

  2. Completes incident and accident reports as required.

  3. Takes an active role in the Annual Campaign.

  4. Is courteous and gives sincere attention to guests by answering questions and providing positive and regular feedback to staff and participants.

  5. Knows the names of guests and uses their names when speaking with them.

  6. Upholds guidelines as outlined in the Employee Handbook of the Association.

  7. Maintains appropriate certifications and records.

  8. Attends designated trainings and staff meetings.

  • Education and Certifications: High school diploma or GED required.  

  • ServSafe Certification preferred.

  • Experience: 2-5 years of experience preferred.

  • Must be comfortable working around children of various ages and adults

  • Must be able to use kitchen equipment safely and according to manufacturers requirements, along with the ability to assess the condition of food.

  • The incumbent is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Also required is frequent hearing and talking, in person and on the telephone.

  • More than 85% of time is spent indoors.

  • The condition of the air is normal/average air conditioned/ventilated.

  • The noise level is normal to loud within an active YMCA program environment.
