Position Summary:
The Chief People Officer is responsible for providing executive-level leadership in developing and executing People strategy in support of our ongoing and Strategic plans, specifically in the areas of succession planning, talent management, change management, organizational and performance management, training and development, organizational culture, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), and compensation, as well as oversight of the administrative aspects of People management. As a member of the Food Banks Executive Team, this person will directly support our mission work of providing nutritious groceries and meals for families in need and will help make sure every person in Northern Illinois has the food they need to thrive.
Essential Functions:
- Member of the Executive Team collectively responsible for overall success of the Food Bank, including positive mission impact, and a strong culture and financial position.
- Identifies key performance indicators for the Food Banks People functions; assesses the organizations success and market competitiveness based on these metrics.
- Responsible for all People Management strategies, including talent acquisition, succession planning, compensation and benefits, and team retention, training, and leadership development.
- Responsible for setting, enforcing, and evaluating effective, legally compliant People policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Responsible for the Food Banks Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) strategies, including working cross-functionally to successfully meet DEI internal and external goals, and managing our Board of Directors and Internal DEI Committees.
- Function as a strategic advisor to the executive leadership team regarding key organizational and management issues including recruiting, managing, and directing their team members.
- Builds and maintains a positive culture that embraces the Food Banks mission, vision and values, and assures strong team productivity, efficiency, and morale.
- Manages a progressive and proactive compensation and benefits program to motivate, incentivize and reward the Food Bank team and provide for their health and welfare.
- Works with internal and external stakeholders in identifying, developing and delivering training and development strategies including reskilling and upskilling, to grow the Food Bank talent pipeline and succession bench.
- Creates and oversees team benefit plans and works with outside brokers to ensure proper administration of plans.
- Works collaboratively with the CEOs office and Marketing team to develop and implement team communications and events. Ensure the Food Banks mission and team philosophy are reinforced with every initiative and communication.
- Manages HR budget.

Required Education, Skills, and Experience
- Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, or related field.
- 10+ years of human resource management experience.
- Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
- Proven success in oversight of all areas of people management.
- Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of and experience with varied HRIS software.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 Suite.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Education, Skills, and Experience
- Advanced degree in Human Resources or law degree preferred.
- Experience in a manufacturing or distribution center environment preferred.
- SHRM-SCP or SPHR certification preferred.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position supervises multiple employees, including People team and DEI team.
Work Environment
This job operates in a clerical office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as
laptop computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to
successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some
filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a
stool as necessary.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; some
flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the "core" work hours of 8 a.m.
to 5:00 p.m. on scheduled work days and must work 40 hours each week to maintain full-time status.
Position Location
This position is based out of our West Suburban Center (Geneva) location.
Travel
Occasional travel to corporate sites in conjunction with customer service, education and employee
relations is expected (anticipated to be 10% annually)
