Chief Litigation Counsel

Role Summary:The Chief Litigation Counsel will be the senior litigator responsible for helping set strategy, and handling significant litigation, arbitration, and pre-litigation disputes for GE Gas Power globally.



Essential Responsibilities:As the Chief Litigation Counsel, you will:





+ Lead and manage a portfolio of significant and complex litigation, arbitrations, and/or pre-litigation disputes on behalf of GE Gas Power; winning cases or settling on favorable terms



+ Help set overall litigation and dispute resolution strategy for the business working with the General Counsel, Chief Compliance Officer and senior business leaders



+ Work closely with senior level leaders in Corporate and the business providing legal guidance and counsel on a variety of matters



+ Utilize early dispute resolution, alternative dispute resolution and preventative lawyering to reduce the number and cost of lawsuits



+ Partner with global business, compliance and regulatory teams to lead legal policy initiatives and to improve management of legal and operational risk



+ Manage outside counsel and other vendors such as IT and data processors to provide legal services in a cost-effective manner within budgetary expectations



+ Work with the Chief Compliance Officer and General Counsel on strategy for significant compliance investigations, and handling those investigations where appropriate



+ You will support the business and legal teams in GE Gas Power and Corporate with legal analysis and advice from a litigators perspective and will work on programs and policies pertaining to the litigation function







Qualifications/Requirements:



+ Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school



+ Member in good standing with a US State or international country equivalent bar association with capability to qualify in a US State



+ Minimum 10 years of experience in complex litigation, arbitration and mediation experience (experience may have been gained in law firms, corporate law departments, government agencies, or other suitable litigation background)





ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:







+ Fluency in English language (working knowledge of French and Spanish a plus)



+ Atlanta GA,

Greenville SC, Schenectady NY preferred, Boston MA may also be considered







Desired Characteristics:



+ Demonstrated legal acumen: proven experience in quickly and accurately analyzing legal issues, developing and deploying litigation tactics, and setting overall case strategy



+ Experience in effective case management: proven experience / ability to make early case assessments, lay out the defense or prosecution of a matter and then execute on that plan with periodic reassessment and modifications made as necessary



+ Ability to anticipate developments in litigation



+ Prior experience managing a large portfolio of matters, including ability to prioritize matters, identify the most critical aspects requiring attention, and driving multiple projects and analyses to conclusion simultaneously; the ability to set and meet deadlines and budgets for legal work



+ Ability to interact effectively within a matrixed and global environment and interact with senior management and peers and all other levels of the organization



+ With greater than fifty percent of GE Gas Powers disputes taking place outside the US, demonstrated strong international experience in infrastructure projects disputes



+ Ability to work horizontally to deliver outcomes



+ Strong oral and written communication and persuasive skills, including executive-level communication



+ Proven team leadership experience in a global environment and ability to successfully function as a senior member of a management team



+ Demonstrated ability to apply solid judgment, clear thinking and business knowledge
