The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for all aspects of the financial function and resources for the corporation overseeing accounting, payroll, risk management, and procurement. As a trusted business advisor, the CFO works closely with the President / Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Senior Leadership and Board of Directors, to develop, monitor and evaluate overall corporate strategy that supports financial and mission goals with an emphasis on bottom line performance, working capital and enhancing community and stakeholder value. The CFO plays a key role in building organizational capability and creating strategic value, creating growth opportunities and mitigating risks. The CFO oversees a staff of four.



We seek an individual who is able to manage through others but understands the day to day enough to know challenges to execution in a complex and ever-changing organization. The candidate will:



  • Be accountable for all legal and compliance policies and processes;

  • Be responsible for conducting financial modeling and analyzing areas of risk and opportunity for the organization;

  • Have a strong finance background, but also bring excellent business and leadership skills;

  • Focus on the performance of the organization, but also be a good talent manager, communicator, and most importantly a good collaborator with both internal and external stakeholders;

  • Be a true business partner to the senior leadership team and to the business unit leaders and will empower their team to do the same; and,

  • Be committed to deepening our impact in the communities we serve.



 


Key Responsibilities

 



  • Responsible for a deep understanding of the organizations business operations, drivers, strategies and success measures to establish guidelines, recommend improvements and provide support to ensure long term growth and sustainability.

  • Be a trusted financial and business partner to the executive team and have an operational mindset.

  • Continually identify and drive improvement initiatives in all operations and finance functions.

  • Oversees the development of the annual operating budget. Regular monitoring of actual and projected performance against budget.

  • Assesses organizational performance against budget and makes actionable recommendations. Participates in developing and implementing short- and long-term strategic plans that supports the organizations vision and goals; translates the strategic plan to staff to ensure support; and modifies the plan in response to changing internal and external factors.

  • Oversees audit and tax preparation processes for Goodwill.

  • Prepares and presents financial reports for use by the President and CEO, the senior leadership team, and the board of directors.

  • Prepares and presents forecasts for future business growth, general economic, industry and financial conditions and reports on their impact on company policies and operations.

  • Provide oversight to the organizations procurement and supply management functions including the procurement of materials, supplies, capital equipment, and services with a focus on quality, service and cost reduction.

  • Directs the organizations enterprise risk management program and activities to include identifying risks, establishing internal controls, managing external audits, providing appropriate levels of insurance coverages, planning and mitigating risks.

  • Ensures investment across the organization is appropriate for organization goals: Effectively balances competing priorities by continually choosing among initiatives, selecting those that best support and enable organization goals and long-term strategy and impact.

  • Ensures processes are in place for developing the full potential of staff by providing needed resources, coaching, experiences and other support to place the right people in key roles and continuously upgrade their skills and knowledge.

  • Drives innovation by creating and fostering an environment that encourages fresh perspectives, exploration of breakthrough ideas and new paradigms that create value in the community.

  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Requirements

A minimum 5 years of finance and/or accounting experience at a management level



  • Undergraduate degree in Finance or Accounting from an accredited institution is required; CPA is required; MBA or Advanced Degree is a plus

  • Experience in not-for-profit accounting is a plus
