Job Summary | The University of Kentucky Center for Applied Energy Research is seeking to fill an Associate Director position to manage the Center’s Carbon Materials research group. This is a highly technical and a senior management-level position with responsibilities for the formulation, development and implementation of energy R&D, education, and service programs related to carbon materials. In the area of interest described above, the successful candidate will: a.) manage multiple projects and teams, a large group of mid-level scientists, engineers and technicians engaged in research and technology development; b.) foster the growth of extramural funding; c.) cooperate with and assist educational institutions, industry, labor, private individuals, and government when such cooperation will advance UK and the Center; d.) lead and contribute to research activities focused on the area of focus/expertise and support the development, implementation, ongoing management, tracking and reporting of a variety of research activities; e.) contribute to teaching, particularly at the graduate and post-graduate levels, by participating in graduate advising committees, and directing the educational experience of students; and f.)significant involvement in seminars, workshops, professional societies, and committees. Skills / Knowledge / Abilities | The position requires specialized knowledge of the methods, materials, procedures and techniques used in experimental laboratory work, including bench-scale and pilot-scale research related to carbon materials. The candidate should have 1.) Abilities to conceive and scale-up multi-step processing systems; 2.) Project management and leadership skills; and 3.) Oral and written communication skills. Practical experience in industry is desired. Demonstrated activity in publications, presentations at scientific meetings and involvement in professional organizations is necessary. |
