Dr. Patrick Pirrotte, Director of the Integrated Mass Spectrometry Shared Resource, leads a team of researchers focused on understanding the intricacies of the expanding fields of proteomics, metabolomics, and lipidomics, through multi-omics integration in both research and personalized medicine. Dr. Pirrotte is a Cancer Center Support Grant member, and collaborates with PI's at TGen and around the world to study diabetes, neurodegenerative diseases, and many types of cancer. Dr. Pirrotte is also the Director of the Integrated Mass Spectrometry Shared Resource (IMS-SR), a premier mass spectrometry facility at City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center. In this role, Dr. Pirrotte and his team collaborate closely with Cancer Center investigators, bringing 85+ years of cumulative expertise to bear to support cutting edge cancer research, clinical trials and therapeutic development.

Dr. Pirrotte is looking for a Bioinformatician interested in diving deep into this space; someone who is driven, communicative, and can multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

The applicant will have the opportunity to work with many types of omics data, including WGS, RNAseq, proteomics and metabolomics, generating comparative analyses within various species and sample types. They will have access to the expansive TGen high-performance computing infrastructure, and the opportunity to grow their understanding of multi-omic research through advanced scientific software and biological data sources. They will be required to present scientific findings/reports to internal and external collaborators through scientific meetings and conferences.

They will be tasked with applying existing tools and informatic resources, developing/optimizing new methods and pipelines, maintaining current software and infrastructure, and visualization/computation of results. They will be required to follow literature, implement and investigate new analytical methods, and provide support for application of informatic resources using multiple programming languages and platforms. Collaboration on projects and biomedical resources will provide an opportunity to contribute to scientific findings and manuscripts/grants/research proposals.

TGen strives to perform collaborative, cutting-edge research that focuses on improving detection and treatment of disease for patients. The Pirrotte Lab mirrors this goal through projects and grants that bring together multiple institutes and -omic fields in the pursuit of identifying novel scientific findings and analytical methods. The applicant must have excellent communication skills, time management, and be able to work as part of a team, maximizing the organization's competitive advantage in biomedical research.

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field and 1+ years of experience.
  • The ideal candidate will have software engineering background, including experience in one or more of the following languages: r, python, java, C, C#.
  • Excellent communication, critical thinking, organization and record-keeping skills are needed.
  • Must have familiarity with database structures and -omics assays.
  • Must be comfortable learning, optimizing and implementing informatic approaches, as well as multi-tasking and working both independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to understand and implement computational algorithms, statistical analysis methods, and custom data analysis software.
