Job Summary | The Department of Preventive Medicine and Environmental Health is seeking an Associate or Professor to develop or continue his or her own area of research in occupational health and/or injury prevention, and engage in collaborative research with other faculty from departments within the College and University. Responsibilities also include educational advising to students and serving on Master’s and doctoral committees. This position requires working relationships with faculty in other departments within the College and University, medical residents, and students. The selected candidate will serve on appropriate committees and professional organizations on a regional or national level, and appropriate College of Public Health, University and department committees. This position will also have an administrative appointment as Associate Director of the Kentucky Injury Prevention and Research Center. In coordination with the College of Public Health’s Dean, the Kentucky Commissioner for Public Health, and the KIPRC Director, the KIPRC Associate Director faculty member will support the multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary injury surveillance and prevention research and practice efforts at the University of Kentucky. These initiatives include epidemiological, social, and economic research related to the prevention and control of unintentional and intentional injuries. The successful candidate will be expected to: 1) establish and maintain a strong record of collaborative research, extramural funding, and publication in the area of injury prevention; 2) contribute to the mission of the College of Public Health through active participation in the Kentucky Injury Prevention and Research Center as the associate director; 3) participate in the teaching and mentoring of public health students; 4) gain broad awareness of KIPRC’s grant and contract-funded activities; and 5) inform the development, implementation, and evaluation of state and national injury prevention programs and policies. The KIPRC Associate Director will also be expected to participate on the KIPRC Leadership Team, providing input on KIPRC operational and programmatic decision-making; cultivate relationships with diverse external stakeholders identifying opportunities for collaboration and community engagement; and collaborate on the preparation of periodic KIPRC operational and fiscal reports. Qualified applicants must be familiar with regional and national efforts in occupational health and/or injury prevention, and should have experience dealing with occupational health and/or injury prevention issues as they apply to public agencies and private institutions. Skills / Knowledge / Abilities | This position requires a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in oral, written, and electronic media with a wide variety of audiences, and demonstrated ability to collaborate with a variety of individuals in professional and policy making positions. Other skills include: ability to relate with internal and external constituencies of the University involved in related disciplines, interpersonal skills in communicating with a wide variety of professionals within and outside the University, and a good base of knowledge and ability for supervising students. Qualified applicants must possess the organizational skills necessary for managing injury prevention research and/or projects. |
