We are seeking an Associate Engineer to maintain and improve the fermentation lab in support of our R&D deliverables. Activities encompass aspects of facilities management, validation, automation, and process development engineering disciplines. The successful candidate will contribute toward strain and process improvement in a fast paced, team oriented research operations setting.

Responsibilities:
    • Effectively prioritize tasks to ensure lab uptime if optimized and strategic objectives are met.
    • Perform corrective and preventive maintenance on fermentation equipment.
    • Create and execute maintenance protocols and calibration routines for equipment and infrastructure including quality control tools for preventive and predictive maintenance.
    • Develop automated data storage, integration and analysis workflows using advanced data analysis tools
    • Provide ongoing technical support of laboratory equipment and infrastructure in an integrated team environment.
    • Develop process automation, equipment, instrumentation, and processes for fermentation systems using cutting edge technology and best practices
    • Scripting automated workflows on integrated robotic systems.
    • Process development and equipment development to optimize fermentations and support new molecule development projects
    • Work collaboratively with fermentation scientists, software engineers and automation engineers.
    • Provide input for quality and efficiency improvement opportunities.
    • Maintain safe practices and work environment.
    • Other duties as assigned


Skills and requirements:
    • BA/BS in biology, life sciences, chemistry, chemical engineering, biochemical engineering or related field.
    • Biological laboratory experience preferred.
    • Seeks input and feedback from lab team, R&D partners, and supervisors.
    • Tenacity in pursuing objectives to completion correctly and on time.
    • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
    • Attention to detail and careful record keeping skills.
    • Working in cross-disciplinary, collaborative teams
    • Familiarity with concepts in statistics, tools to analyze data (Excel, Minitab, R, Spotfire), and manufacturing principles such as 5S and Lean.
    • Knowledge of contemporary programming languages such as C++, Python, and SQL
    • Weekend work is mandatory. Overtime is required, as needed.
