Job Description

Associate Director, Real World Evidence (RWE) and Epidemiology


The GHEOR RWE and Epidemiology Associate Director is responsible for leading development, coordination, and execution of epidemiology research program for the assigned products or brands at various stages of development.  This position reports to Director, RWE/Epidemiology Lead, within the GHEOR group.


Essential Functions:

Provides subject matter expertise, guidance and direction to internal and external stakeholders, including:

  • Epidemiologic expertise to the medical teams, clinical teams and HEOR asset leads into strategic clinical and medical plans (global, local, commercial, medical) for all Specialty Medicines products.
  • Provide epidemiology-related input and evidence support to Clinical and Medical Affairs teams for the design, planning and conduct of analyses of Phase I-IV clinical trials and observational studies, as well as post-hoc analyses of existing databases and  systematic literature synthesis (meta-analyses, etc) for the assigned brands at various stages of development.
  • Work closely with GHEOR team members, Medical Affairs colleagues (e.g. Sci Comm), as well as Statisticians and Analysts, to provide scientifically sound, innovative solutions to meet the evidence generation objectives.
  • Collaborate with GHEOR colleagues in designing observational studies (Phase I-IV) including study design and execution to describe and quantify disease epidemiology and real-world usage and effectiveness to ensure robust study design.
  • Perform critical appraisal and synthesis of relevant epidemiological literature, including broad disease area support.
  • Ensures optimal management of cross-functional projects, identifies potential risks to project objectives, ensure scientific integrity and cost-effective project delivery.
  • Maintain awareness of regulatory requirements, initiatives and advances in epidemiology, and real world evidence.


PhD in Epidemiology, Public Health, Health Services Research or a related field with at least 2+ years of relevant pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry experience, OR a Master's degree in Health Economics, Epidemiology, or related field, and at least 5 years of relevant pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry experience
Demonstrated hands-on expertise with a variety of RW data sources (health claims, EMRs, primary data collection methods, etc.)
Ability to write an executable observational study protocol using a secondary data source (RWD). 
A track record of peer-reviewed scientific publications demonstrating expertise in RWE/Epidemiology
Comprehensive knowledge of epidemiological, pharmacoepidemiological and observational study methods and good working knowledge of health care systems and regulatory processes across different countries.
Ability to understand disease space and appropriately plan and deliver GHEOR strategy and studies for specific compounds. Serves as source of expertise/advice for cross-functional team members.
Ability to influence and negotiate without formal direct authority, consultative in approach, and diplomatic.
Maintains up-to-date knowledge of industry best practices in epidemiology and risk management with excellent methodological and analytic skills
