Designs, develops, implements and oversees the organization's environmental, health and safety programs and procedures to safeguard employees and surrounding communities and to ensure that all facilities are in compliance with regulations. Responsibilities are within the Environmental Health and Safety Function as a generalist or in a combination of Disciplines.


Essential Duties / Functions

  • Provides leadership in developing, implementing and managing EH&S policies, programs and practices.
  • Plans and implements procedures, programs, and files reports in compliance with the company standards and requirements.
  • Plans and implements procedures, programs, and files reports in compliance with the local, state, federal agencies (including but not limited to): OSHA, DOT, EPA.
  • Assists with annual facility and departments goals.
  • Participates in budget process, in areas of EHS and compliance.
  • Plans, implements, and oversees the company safety programs in the areas (including but not limited to): Environmental Protection, Fire safety, Hazardous Materials, Biological Safety, Laboratory Safety, Emergency Response, Hazard Communication, Employee Exposure.
  • Coordinates and assists with the safety committee.
  • Plans and implements programs to train supervisors and employees to meet standards and also to enhance the company safety culture.
  • Assists with new employees safety orientation program and employees safety training.
  • Inspects the facility departments (safety audits) to detect existing or potential incident and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.
  • Assists with the facility Contractor EHS Policy.
  • Assists with the facility emergency response to environmental, structural, and employee incidents.
  • Assists with the investigation of near-misses, incidents and injuries from initial report to closure.

Education Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Degree in safety/ industrial hygiene/ ergonomics/ environment preferred.


Experience Required:

  • EHS experience expectations at the site level: 10 years of Advanced EHS experience (high emphasis on leadership and managerial experience).
  • Adequate practical experience with site EHS programs or have implemented or ran other programs in a highly regulated environment, i.e. Production/ Quality/ Engineering.
  • Basic experience with management systems such as ISO9001; ISO 14001; OHSAS18001.


Specialized or Technical Knowledge, Licenses, Certifications required:

  • Adequate technical knowledge in EHS (such as: waste, water, air emissions, audit and inspection, industrial hygiene, hazard communication, ergonomics, lab safety, process safety and EHS management systems).Basic knowledge of local current and upcoming legislation and current best EHS practices. International experience is an advantage.Basic knowledge of cGMP requirements for products, process and systems. Basic knowledge of OPEX principles and tools.
  • Basic project management knowledge and experience. Adequate experience in working with matrix environment.

Physical Demand Requirement:

  • The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
