Job Summary

The Department of Horticulture, within the College of Agriculture, Food and Environment at the University of Kentucky, is seeking a faculty member at the Assistant Professor rank. This position has an expected distribution of effort (DOE) involving all aspects of the Land-Grant mission and will be approximately 50% research, 35% extension, 10% teaching and 5% service; however, the final DOE will be aligned with the strengths of the individual selected for the position and the needs of the department. Strong candidates will leverage high quality research and/or extension in the plant sciences with emphasis given to pioneering approaches in controlled environments (CE). The successful candidate will develop and maintain an original and collaborative multidisciplinary research program in specialty crops, funded by competitive external grants and supported with peer-reviewed journal publications. Basic and/or applied research may include CE, genetic and/or physiological manipulation of plant-product quality components such as nutritional value, flavor, fragrance, color, or other emerging areas. Extension efforts will support current and emerging CE specialty crops production systems in Kentucky and beyond, including: greenhouse production for small farms; indoor farming systems; and/or other novel controlled environment applications.

The University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, Food and Environment was founded as, and remains a land-grant institution, committed to improving the quality of life for Kentuckians. Our research, teaching, and extension programs are part of a national system that maintains a statewide presence and links local, state, and global issues.
