A professional degree in interior design or related field (BA, BS, MA, MS, M.Arch) and a terminal degree (Master’s post-professional or Doctorate) in interior design or related field. Nationally or internationally recognized professional work may be considered as a substitution for the terminal degree requirement; however, Provost approval is required for non-terminally degreed candidates.

Evidence of design excellence as well as an awareness and understanding of issues in interior design practice and academia, including social justice and equity.

NCIDQ certification or interest in obtaining certification.

The School of Interiors in the College of Design at the University of Kentucky is seeking a Regular Title Series (tenure eligible) Assistant Professor who is passionate about design education and practice and who thinks broadly about its capacity and application.

We are open to candidates with a wide range of specializations, including endeavors that expand traditional definitions. While a research agenda and teaching experience in higher education is preferred, experiences not conventional to academic settings are also considered valuable.

As an Assistant Professor and tenure-track member of the School of Interiors faculty, the selected candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate-level studio courses and lecture/seminar courses; mentor graduate student thesis projects and be an active presence in the school as well as the design community by collaborating with campus and community partners. As a land-grant institution, university and professional service are an expectation. Research, design, teaching experience and an understanding of curriculum focused on interiors is desired. This position is a 9-month appointment with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2023.

Candidates of interest for this position will have the following qualifications:
