The School of Architecture seeks applicants with an advanced degree, professional licensure (preferred), as well as a body of research in the form of built work, design research, or scholarship disseminated through publications, exhibitions, public lectures, and/or recognized by grants or awards. Candidates must have teaching experience at the university level and professional experience, preferably in practices recognized for advancing architecture.
Required License/Registration/Certification
NCARB or equivalent architectural registration (preferred).
Job Summary
The School of Architecture at the University of Kentucky invites nominations and applications for the position of Assistant Professor in the Regular Title Series.The successful candidate will teach at the undergraduate and/or graduate level: two architecture studios, as well as a required lecture course in our program’s evolving building technology sequence. The appointment comes with start-up support to launch a research program that produces scholarly or creative output of national and international standing, as well as an expectation of service to the school, college, university, profession, and community. This full-time tenure-track academic position comes with a 9-month appointment, and an anticipated start date of August 1, 2023.

The School of Architecture is highly interested in candidates with well-rounded architectural expertise, who can demonstrate strength in architectural design, as well as proficiency in the integration of architectural systems, such as building envelopes, material assemblies, structural systems, and environmental controls. The School aims to advance its building technology curriculum to engage the critical issues of our time, from climate change to social equity to emerging technologies. We seek applicants who possess pedagogical agility and creativity to engage with this mission through instruction, course development, and faculty collaborations that promote an overall integrated curriculum. Candidates should have a strong interest in teaching through creative instructional approaches and effective communication with their students.

The School also seeks candidates with a creative research/practice agenda dedicated to an integrated approach to design and building, who are fluent with contemporary digital tools for architectural exploration, analysis, and construction. We encourage candidates to articulate how their research/practice endeavors to advance the field of architecture, and how they productively affiliate research and teaching to support the education of the future architect.

About the School of Architecture

As the Commonwealth of Kentucky’s sole NAAB accredited Architecture program, UK offers a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture, as well as two- and three-year Master of Architecture programs. Established in 1965, the School of Architecture today employs 30 full and part-time faculty, who teach over 300 graduate and undergraduate students. Our program is poised for transformation with a new College of Design building and facilities for the School of Architecture, as well as new College leadership that will leverage our school’s strengths towards an outstanding, vibrant future.
