Assistant Principal
The Earl Monroe New Renaissance Basketball School seeks a High School Assistant Principal. Under the direction of the Principal, the Assistant Principal implements and enforces instructional imperatives, school policies, procedures, administrative expectations, and regulations. The ideal candidate is a dedicated, experienced educator skilled in creating a strong school culture and sense of community for students, parents, and staff. In the absence of the building principal, the assistant Principal shall assume the duties and responsibilities of the building principal.
The Earl Monroe New Renaissance Basketball School opened its doors to a diverse freshman class of 110 boys and girls in September 2021. This school is the first specialty high school in the entire country for basketball, but NOT for the PLAYING of the game. Former NBA Commissioner David Stern's founding trustee would often say, A Ball and a Book Can Change the World.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors Degree required, Masters Prefered
Minimum of 5+ years of continuous teaching experience
Distinguished record as an outstanding school administrative leader
Ability to motivate and collaborate with staff, students, and parents in support of carrying out the districts mission
Commitment to educational equity, inclusion, and academic excellence
Commitment to supporting active, engaging, and relevant learning experiences for all students
A passionate communicator with and maintain high academic expectations for all students.
Excellent organization, time management, and follow-up skills; high sense of urgency; demonstrated ability to successfully handle multiple projects concurrently; ability to work as a team
Essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Support the monitoring of progress towards achieving annual academic and school-wide goals for the school.
Contribute to the fostering of a climate that encourages the school community to repurpose itself on a regular basis by focusing on its core values and beliefs.
Ensure that the schools policies, procedures, and protocols for holding all students to high behavioral expectations as stated in the Code of Conduct are understood, promoted, and reinforced equitably and consistently by all students and staff members.
Supervise and model strong facilitation of school-wide processes/procedures, while ensuring the safety of all students. These include: arrival, dismissal, transitions, lunch, and/or recess as needed
Support and model the facilitation of the schools Child Study Team (attend weekly meetings, manage referrals, monitor recommended plans).
Maintain monthly records to assist teachers in the classroom while promoting a positive behavior intervention and support system.
Coordinating and administering all NYS and college placement testing, including Regents exams, AP exams, NYSESLAT, PSATs, SATs, ACTs, and field exams as assigned by NYSED
Prepare and submit all reports required by authorizing agencies.
Support the design and supervision of additional learning opportunities for students (academic tutoring, summer school, Saturday Academy, etc.)
Plan and facilitate relevant school-based professional development and provide ongoing guidance and support to ensure content, learning standards, and curriculum materials are fully understood and instruction is implemented in accordance with network and school expectations.
Implement consistent instructional professional development protocols and plans (e.g., PD calendar, walkthroughs, observations, modeling, peer observations, data, student work product reviews, etc.).
Collect, organize and analyze student growth data and teacher performance data in order to design targeted intervention strategies for students and teachers alike. Lead collaborative inquiry to model intervention strategies for staff.
Formally evaluate staff and assist in the identification of growth goals in order to improve performance, including student teachers, teaching assistants, and interns.
Informally coach and provide evidence-based feedback to staff, appropriately balancing accountability and support.
