Job Summary
The Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotion within the College of Education at the University of Kentucky is seeking candidates for an advanced assistant or associate professor position (tenure eligible) in Health Promotion, effective January or August 2022. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.  

Responsibilities:  
The selected candidate will be expected to be actively committed to our department vision and mission by pursuing excellence in teaching, research and scholarship, and service. Successful candidates will be expected to teach graduate and/or undergraduate health promotion courses and provide leadership experience in the health promotion unit. Courses taught may include undergraduate courses in Introduction to Health Education and Health Promotion, Community Organizing in Health Promotion, Program Planning, or other health education/health promotion courses as assigned. Possible graduate courses might include Foundations of Health Promotion, Behavior Change and Health Promotion, Program Planning, Health Coaching, or other graduate courses as assigned.  

The candidate would also be expected to develop and maintain an active research agenda, showcasing a strong record of academic scholarship as demonstrated by an independent research trajectory, peer-reviewed research publications, and the ability to secure extramural research funding.  
The candidate would advise and mentor masters and doctoral students in the health promotion program; provide support for the undergraduate non-teacher certified health promotion major and minor programs as well as the health promotion teacher education program.

Required Qualifications:  

  1. An earned research doctorate in health promotion, health education, or a public health-related field before the employment start date; 
  2. A commitment to and record of successful college or university teaching excellence in areas related to health promotion, health education, community health, or public health; 
  3. A strong record of academic scholarship as demonstrated by peer-reviewed research publications and the ability to secure extramural research funding; 
  4. A commitment to and experience mentoring student research and career development;  
  5. Potential for or history of active service participation and/or leadership roles in campus, community, and professional organizations.  
  6. The successful candidate must be able to work collegially and effectively with faculty, staff, and students with diverse racial/ethnic, cultural, gender, age, ability, and socioeconomic backgrounds. 
Preferred Qualifications:  

Experience teaching online and hybrid courses using web-based course management systems; experience as undergraduate or graduate program director/coordinator; experience with K-12 health education/teaching or school partnerships; experience working and engaging in research with culturally and linguistically diverse communities; a strong interdisciplinary and collaborative research record; experience working in a multicultural setting; possession of the CHES® or MCHES®.
