Job Summary

The University of Kentucky, College of Health Sciences, Department of Physical Therapy, is seeking a tenure-track faculty member at a rank commensurate with the applicant’s qualifications, with primary responsibilities as the Director of Clinical Education (DCE).

Our well-established and nationally respected program offers a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree on two campuses. Our Lexington, KY campus enrolls 48-50 students per year and 16-18 students are enrolled on the Hazard, KY campus. The program maintains 350-400 clinical sites and is accredited by the CAPTE.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in providing and/or supervising clinical education to physical therapist students. Participation in scholarly activities is expected and supported, along with university service activities. The DCE will hold a faculty appointment and will have administrative, academic, service, and scholarship responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of our academic program. The DCE will demonstrate competence in clinical education, teaching, and curriculum development. In addition, their primary responsibilities will be to plan, coordinate, facilitate, administer, and monitor activities on behalf of the academic program and in coordination with academic and clinical faculty. These activities will include but will not be limited to the following:

• Developing, monitoring, evaluating and refining the clinical education component of the curriculum,
• Providing documented records and assessment of the clinical education component (includes clinical education sites, clinical educators, etc.)

The DCE serves as a liaison between the physical therapy program and the clinical education sites. The DCE, in cooperation with other academic faculty, establishes clinical education site and facility standards, selects and evaluates clinical education sites, and facilitates ongoing development of and communication with clinical education sites and clinical faculty. Faculty may also assume an active role in the CHS Rehabilitation Sciences Doctoral Program, a multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional Ph.D. program with faculty and students from the disciplines of Athletic Training & Clinical Nutrition, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy and Speech-Language Pathology.
