Position Summary

Guggenheim Life and Annuity Company is seeking an exceptional and collaborative Agency Staff Accountant to join the Agency Accounting team. In this position you will complete a variety of detailed accounting and financial reporting activities related to agent commissions and statements. Tasks are completed on behalf of multiple legal entities within the Guggenheim Insurance family of companies and include recording, processing and summarizing financial information for accounting and regulatory reporting, maintaining various account balances, and related activities for agent commissions credit/debit balances, annual statements and other reports.

The role is located in Indianapolis (far north side).

Essential Job Functions

  • Assists in the accurate and timely preparation and filing of financial statements in a multi-company environment.
  • Assists in the accurate and timely preparation of monthly management reporting.
  • Prepares the close calendar and monitors completion of various closing activities.
  • Performs data entries including GAAP journals, general recurring journals and miscellaneous entries.
  • Prepares general ledger account reconciliations and bank reconciliations.
  • Assists with various audits of company records, working with external auditors and internal auditors.


Preferred Qualifications

Accounting and financial reporting experience within the financial services and/or insurance industry

Exposure to general ledger applications helpful (EAS or Oracle preferred)

Excellent oral, written, listening, and presentation skills and ability to clearly articulate complex information to others

Demonstrated ability to solve problems and issues of all types

Ability to work effectively with all departments and affiliates to ensure integration of strategic goals and principles

Advanced working knowledge of basic office and PC applications, including MS Word, Excel and Outlook

In addition the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Initiative and self-driven to increase knowledge and understanding of accounting and financial practices and procedures


Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline
  • 2-5 years accounting and financial reporting experience
