Aerospace Academy Summer Camp Instructor (Temporary)

Temporary Full -Time Summer Camp Instructor - CPD Aerospace Academy:

Provide professional instruction for Continuing & Professional Development (CPD) Summer camp classes offered through San Jacinto College including the Central, North, and/or South campuses as well as other off-site locations if necessary. Meet course training objectives with excellent instructor evaluations. Instructors employed as part-time faculty are not entitled to all the rights, privileges, and benefits of regular, full-time employees. Part-time faculty are hired on an "as needed" basis and will work for the duration of time specified by the respective course.

Chief Responsibilities:
  • Teach key concepts in a variety of formats: hands-on, direct instruction, group work and one-on-one with students with curriculum provided by San Jacinto College's Aerospace department NASA grant
  • Utilize provided instructional material, activities, guest speakers, and field trips to instruct 6-8th grade students.
  • Provide overall safety and oversight of the students
  • Provide cleaning/ organizing/repairing of instructional materials and equipment as needed
  • Flexibility to teach at one or more campuses as needed
  • Communicate and treat children, parents, and coworkers with professionalism, dignity and respect
  • Fill out all required San Jac documentation (timesheet, class rolls, etc.)
  • Participate in extracurricular activities such as the college tour
  • Communicate with SJCD staff as to the supplies and needs for the class. Provide feedback to SJ on what works and what doesn't.
  • Assist in cleaning classroom daily
  • Help with distributing lunch, snack and drinks daily
  • Insure that students exit the class and go home with correct family pickup
  • Take part in course trainings and weekly staff meetings, to occur before and/or after camp on a designated day each week
  • Assist with set up before camp starts and classroom turnover at the end of each week as necessary
  • Fill out roster of daily attendance
  • Other duties as required


R equired Qualifications:
  • Bachelor degree in STEM field from an accredited college or an Education (teaching) degree
  • Experience teaching youth on STEM topics with effective classroom management skills (volunteer experience will be considered)
  • Knowledge of aerospace industry
  • Information technology skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Responsible, punctual, friendly, and enthusiastic
  • Be able to commit to teaching for 1or more (up to 7) weeks in June and July 2019
  • Clean driving record and must have own form of reliable transportation
  • Willing to undergo background check


Preferred qualifications:
  • 7-12 Teacher certification in science, technology, or math is preferred
  • Experience working in the Houston area aerospace industry
  • Master's degree in STEM field
  • Two or more years of teaching summer camps for middle and high school students is preferred
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in one of the following subjects:
    • Computer Programming
    • 3D Design and Printing
    • Coding and Programming
    • Robotics
    • Drone Flight, Aviation
    • Circuitry (Arduino and Raspberry Pi) or Engineering
  • First Aid/CPR certification preferred

Working information:

  • Position pays $32/hr.
  • Classes will take place over 7-8 weeks in June and July 2020 from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Thursday and 7:30am to 12:00pm on Fridays.
  • Teaching site locations are San Jacinto College's North, Central and South campuses.
