The APP/Inpatient (APP) works in collaboration with a multidisciplinary health care team. The APP functions as a member of the primary medical management team. This requires management of the critical care aspects of patients from admission to discharge. In some service lines the APP may perform the coordination of care from ICU or critical care to discharge. The APP has a strong foundation in evidenced based practice and education and ensuring an environment of safe quality care. The APP demonstrates an advanced level of medical and nursing knowledge, clinical and technical competency, sound clinical judgment, professionalism as it relates to interpersonal and general communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and takes responsibility for ongoing professional development and competency validation.

Given the COVID-19 pandemic, and the need to protect our university community including our students, staff, faculty and visitors, the University of Kentucky is requiring COVID-19 vaccination for all new hires prior to starting employment. Therefore, as of October 18, 2021, all new hires prior to their first day of employment must submit appropriate documentation showing, i) completion of the first vaccination against COVID-19, or ii) completion of the full vaccination series against COVID-19, or iii) approved exemption (medical contraindications or a sincerely held religious belief) through the formal exemption process from the COVID-19 vaccination requirement. For those employees who have completed the first vaccination against COVID-19 prior to their first day of employment, the second vaccination (if applicable) must be completed following the vaccination recommended schedule to be considered fully vaccinated.

Critical care experience preferred.

Master’s degree plus two or more years critical care experience as either bedside RN or APRN or PA preferred. ACNP/AGACNP certification for a Nurse Practitioner preferred.
